Relendo o Advanced Routing HOWTO buscando resolver um problema, acabei tropeçando neste guia para maximizar o desempenho e reduzir a latência para conexões, voltado justamente para os tipos de conexão de banda larga mais comuns no Brasil. Se você não se assusta com a possibilidade de alterar as configurações de rede de seu computador, merece uma boa olhada - promete melhor tempo de resposta em serviços online (ssh, jogos, chat, etc.) e downloads e uploads próximos da maior velocidade teórica de sua linha.
E linhas discadas?
Alguém tem dicas para balancear tráfego de clientes NAT (inclusive a própria máquina roteadora), testes de MTU e MRU ideais, etc?
Estou usando o squid e o pdnsd (cache de DNS) aqui, e tudo está um pouco mais rápido. Mas acho que dá pra melhorar mais...

A message titled 'Test Script for P2P' appeared in netfilter list a while ago. It seems to be intended to mark P2P type traffic and subjects them to queuing disciplines with tc. I haven't tested it, but it might be what you are looking for..:

Any opinions? I'm particularly interested in the values for variables
QLEN, RQ and BURST.
